    Archiving Football Culture is Radical and Necessary

    ABSTRACT

    This article examines the Cape Verdean national football team as a formation shaped across islands, and its diasporas.

    Drawing on the trajectories of players born in Cape Verde as well as in cities such as Rotterdam or Geneva, it argues that the national team reflects the broader social and historical construction of Cape Verde itself as an archipelago of relations extending beyond territorial borders.

    As Cape Verde prepares to encounter North America through the World Cup, the article shows how mobility and dispersion are a main features of Cape Verdean identity and nationhood.

    The national team represents through which these dispersed trajectories temporarily converge, revealing how the nation is continually assembled across multiple geographies.
